Description

I had the intention in mind to learn about sewing and improve my sewing skills. I planned to demonstrate the knowledge and skills I obtained by producing a final product. The final product I created was an Indo-western dress that was composed of a blouse and a full length flared skirt. I used the knowledge I gathered from the research phase to produce the piece.

Process Planning

My initial research question was “How can I develop my sewing skills and utilize them to create an Indo-Western dress.” My global context was personal and cultural expression. I conducted research from multiple published works by renowned designers and sewing artists. Some difficulties I encountered was finding the right way to cut the fabric to maximize the flare of the skirt, I did a little more research on the different ways to cut out fabrics and I watched few videos for a visual example and found a suitable method.

Motivation/Personal interest

I chose to pursue this project because sewing is a skill I had no prior knowledge of and I thought that this was a great opportunity to hone skills that I would otherwise not have the time for. I enjoy the creative freedom that comes with being able to sew your own clothing. This connects with me because I enjoy spending my free time practicing my creativity and learning how to sew could channel this.

The first step I took during the action phase of this project was organizing and prioritizing what research was essential to be conducted in order to make the panned product come to life. I also had to plan which materials I needed so that I could arrange to get them in time of making the product. The materials I needed were; a sewing machine, fabric, sewing machine threads, and lace. I took actions to image prove my product, I asked multiple people that are experienced in the field for their feedback and applying their feedback.
